Fermoy's Noel O'Callaghan rolled back the years with another win in the Man's Open Singles at the Galway Open held last weekend in Moycullen Handball & Racquetball Centre. O`Callaghan opponent in the final was surprise packet Keelan O'Gorman, silver medalist in the 2018 Junior World doubles and victor over Irish number 1, Johnny O'Keeney in the semi-final. However, it was the seasoned veteran O'Callaghan who pulled out all the stops to defeat the Araglen man by 3 games to nil. The Women's Singles final was a repeat of the recent European Championship semi final between Majella Haverty (Castlebar) and Antonia Neary(Arklow). Haverty defeated Elaine Murphy(Templederry) in her semi while Neary won her battle with Katie Kenny (Castlebar) in the other semi. In the final Majella ran out the winner by 3 games to 1 thus regaining her position at the top of the Irish women's rankings. Overall the Galway Open had an entry of 46 players and our thanks to Ray Keleghan, Olivia Downey and the Moycullen club on running a successful tournament.
