The 2023 All Ireland Championships take place tomorrow Saturday 4th & Sunday 5th March, 2023 in Fermoy Community Youth Centre & Mitchelstown Racuetball Club and other surrounding courts in Co.Cork. We welcome all players, spectators, referees, volunteers, coaches, parents and racquetball enthusiasts to Co.Cork to watch players from across the country compete to take home a National title and call themselves All Ireland Champion. Finals will take place on Sunday and we welcome all to come along and watch! With over 45 athletes competing, we are excited to see the countries best racquetball at play across several grades from Novice to Open for both Singles & Doubles. Follow all the action with live results: https://www.r2sports.com/tourney/home.asp?TID=40669 Another junior tournament in the books as the 2023 Irish Junior Open took place in Castlebar & Ballinrobe, Co.Mayo, Saturday 18th February with the biggest junior entry for any junior tournament for the 2022/2023 season with 40 athletes competing across the two venues. Fermoy Racquetball Club pipped Castlebar Racquetball Club by 1 point winning the cup with 41 points taking home the Aisling Hynes Memorial Cup for the Club Team event. A wonderful achievement for the club to take home this special cup for the first time. Six clubs competed for the cup; Araglen, Mitchelstown, Galmoy, Fermoy, North Sligo and Castlebar. Congratulations to all at Fermoy Racquetball Club. Divisions ran from U11 to U17 for both boys and girls as many competed for the very first time in their first tournament. Congratulations to all winners and participants. Lots of new Irish Junior Champions were crowned and full results to come. The Racquetball Association of Ireland have combined forces with Team Dovetail Racquetball to announce a Team Dovetail Ireland Tour. Over the past few weeks, Racquetball Ireland and Mike Kinkin of Team Dovetail have worked out an agreement and we are happy to announce that Team Dovetail have committed a number of professional and international players to visit Ireland in May 2023. These athletes will compete in the 40th Irish Open on Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th May 2023. The Racquetball Association of Ireland are working on a full itinerary with Team Dovetail to deliver clinics/sessions to our Coaches, Panels and junior athletes in each region for the week of their visit gaining the most from these athletes and their experience and knowledge. A full itinerary will be announced later. We are pleased to be working with Mike, a true ambassador of the sport, to make this happen. With the 40 edition of our Irish Open, Racquetball Ireland wants to celebrate racquetball in Ireland and acknowledge 40 years of this event by creating a World class tournament. Stay tuned. After a 3 year absence of this tournament, the 2023 Tralee Open took place in Tralee Regional Sports & Leisure Centre, this past weekend, 21st & 22nd January. In the Mens Open Singles, Johnny O’Keeney defeated his Fermoy clubmate Noel O’Callaghan in the final 3-1. It wasn’t an easy journey for either finalist as there were two five set battles in the semi finals with O'Callaghan defeating Ken Cottrell and O'Keeney defeating Brian Byrne respectively who made the journey to the final difficult. In the Womens Open Singles, Aisling Hickey took the title in a five set thriller against Castlebar’s Majella Haverty winning 3-2. Hickey and partner Antonia Neary also took home the Open Doubles title. Other noteworthy wins include Chris Carey of Fermoy who won the Mens B Singles defeating Odhran Moloney of Galmoy. We saw a great entry from Naomh Abán Racquetball club and also took home some honors; Dan Healy Winner of Mens Novice B Singles and Karen Hoare Runner up Womens Novice. The new state of the art 40x20 court has been built, and is a result of hard work and determination of its members, as well as local community. Racquetball Ireland will be supporting the club next Wednesday night (11th Jan 2023) as we send some top players will visit the club to host an exhibition match and a training clinic alongside our welcome pack. We are excited to see racquetball growing in Co. Wexford and very pleased to have this club on board! Onwards and upwards!
